During the 2021-2022 school year we saw increased assaults of students and staff, violent social media challenges, more than twelve guns in schools, and a school shooting that exposed the system-wide school safety crisis in Boston's public and charter schools. These same issues have continued into the 2022- 2023 school year. We have already had a stabbing and a shooting at a school. We have a school safety crisis! The safety plan in place is not working.
There must be a new strategy that provides for the safe learning environment our students deserve. Since January 2022 we have reached out to Mayor Wu and BPS leadership and have received no specific action plan for school safety. We need more than general statements about being in favor of safe schools. We need a specific plan that addresses the specific safety issues confronting our schools Often, we are asked what we think the school safety plan should be, so we have put together our Boston school safety plan below. We believe that Boston should provide a world-class education for every student. In order to accomplish this goal, we must provide safe schools because this is the foundation of a great education.
